Project Team visit Powderhall Bronze

Photo Left to Right: Dave Matthews, Steve Nicoll and Barry Barnwell (SSP Committee), Alan Beattie Herriot (Sculptor) and Kerry Hammond (Powderhall Bronze).

The salmon preferred to remain anonymous.

On the 14th of December the project committee travelled to Edinburgh to meet up sculptor, Alan Beattie Herriot, and Kerry Hammond (Powderhall) to get an update the casting progress. Kerry patiently explained the processes of 'lost wax' casting. Almost all of the work is labour intensive requiring many hours of work for each stage.

It's only at the later stages where everything come together and begins to look like the finished article. The original Leaping Salmon statue was cast using cheaper materials instead of bronze and were easily damaged by an act of vandalism.

Kerry hosted the SSP committee to seasonal mince pies and tea after a very informative and interesting visit. Another visit will be scheduled in 2025 to view further progress.
