The stone plinth of the Leaping Salmon statue is deliberately designed to replicate features of the Commando Memorial. This includes the shape of the plinth and the style and wording of the commemorative plaque.
Hand carved into the stonework of the Commando Memorial is the legend 'United We Conquer' complete with the stylistic dit motif between each word. This will also be incorporated into the plinth of the Leaping Salmon. Bespoke stone letter carver David Wilson has started to patiently carve each letter and symbol into the host stones. One stone will feature 'United We Conquer' and the second stone 'We Will Remember Them'.
As a young boy David recalls visiting the Commando Memorial with his parents. Standing on front of 'The Three Men' he gained early inspiration to work with stone. David studied at Dundee University where Scott Sutherland worked for almost 30 years.
The SSP committee are hugely grateful to David for his willingness to get involved and deliver such a high standard of skill.
