Dundee University joins the Commando Memorial Heritage Trail
The seventh plaque in the Commando Memorial Heritage Trail was formally handed over to Dundee University ahead of the scheduled unveiling on the 10th of July 2024. Scott Sutherland entered the doors of the Crawford Building on the Perth Road during his time as Head of Sculpture. The plaque will be positioned on the brick screen wall shown in the photograph which is directly in front of the Crawford Building.
Project committee member, Steve Nicoll, handed the plaque over to Andrew Dodds and Yvonne Murray of Dundee University and thanked them for their support.
Arrangements are well advanced for the unveiling and Yvonne Murray has been really instrumental in getting this together. The plaque will be unveiled and dedicated by sculptor Alan Beattie Herriot. Alan studied under 'Scotty' and has been commissioned to create the Leaping Salmon Memorial Statue to commemorate the commandos killed and injured during wartime training.
