Birkhill joins the Heritage Trail
Updated: May 27, 2023
On a wonderfully sunny day on the 23rd of May the village of Birkhill (Dundee) became the fifth location to join the Commando Memorial Heritage Trail. Scott Sutherland and his family lived here for eight years and during that period he entered, and won, the competition to create the internationally iconic Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge. Heathermount is the birthplace of the Commando Memorial. It wasn't practical to attach the plaque on the renovated property. Thanks to the sterling efforts of project friends, Callum Murray and Bob Colville, the plaque was securely attached to the external fencing. This allows the plaque to be easily viewed without breaching the privacy of the owners. Thanks to Chris and Wendy for allowing their home to join the trail.
The plaque was unveiled by Paul 'Baz' Barrett. Baz is the Transition Support Officer for the RMA - The Royal Marines Charity.
